In the year 2029, mutants are nearly extinct, and Logan (Hugh Jackman), once known as Wolverine, is living a secluded life as a limo driver near the Mexican border. He takes care of an ailing Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who is suffering from a neurodegenerative disease causing destructive seizures. One day, Logan is approached by a woman who pleads with him to help a young girl named Laura (Dafne Keen). Initially reluctant, Logan learns that Laura has abilities similar to his own—she is a genetically engineered mutant created by a secret organization, Transigen.

When mercenaries led by Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook) come after her, Logan, Laura, and Charles go on the run. As they journey toward a rumored mutant sanctuary called “Eden,” Logan struggles with his declining health and his reluctant acceptance of Laura as his daughter. In an emotional climax, Logan sacrifices himself to protect Laura and the other young mutants from Transigen forces, ultimately passing on his legacy as she embraces her identity as X-23.
