Get Out (2017)

Summary:

Get Out (2017) is a psychological horror-thriller directed by Jordan Peele. The film follows Chris Washington, a Black photographer, who visits his white girlfriend Rose Armitage’s family estate for the weekend. Initially, the Armitages appear overly accommodating, but Chris soon senses that something is disturbingly wrong. The family’s Black housekeeper and groundskeeper behave strangely, and Rose’s hypnotist mother manipulates Chris into a trance-like state.

As he unravels the mystery, Chris discovers a horrifying secret: the Armitages are part of a cult-like group that transfers the consciousness of wealthy white individuals into the bodies of young Black people, stealing their identities and free will. Chris must fight to escape before he becomes their next victim.

Blending horror, social commentary, and psychological tension, Get Out critiques racism, cultural appropriation, and systemic oppression in America. The film’s gripping narrative, eerie atmosphere, and unsettling symbolism made it a critical and commercial success. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and cemented Peele’s reputation as a master of modern horror.
