Doctor Sleep (2019) is a psychological horror film and the sequel to Stephen King’s The Shining. The movie follows Danny Torrance, the young boy from the original story, now an adult struggling with alcoholism and the trauma from his past at the Overlook Hotel. Danny, played by Ewan McGregor, tries to lead a quiet life, but his psychic abilities, known as “shining,” continue to haunt him. He forms a bond with Abra Stone, a young girl who has an even stronger shine and is being targeted by a cult called the True Knot, led by Rose the Hat. This group feeds off the psychic energy of children with the shining to extend their lives.
As the story unfolds, Danny confronts his past while protecting Abra from the cult. The film blends psychological horror and supernatural elements as Danny battles his demons and fights to save Abra from the True Knot’s dangerous intentions. Doctor Sleep explores themes of redemption, the impact of trauma, and the legacy of the past.
