Cinemawala (2016)

Summary:

Cinemawala (2016) is a Bengali drama film directed by Kaushik Ganguly that explores the emotional conflict between a father and son, set against the decline of single-screen cinemas in India. Pranabendu Das, a former cinema hall owner, clings to the nostalgia of classic films and the golden era of cinema. However, his son, Prokash, sees no future in the dying business and instead turns to selling pirated DVDs, symbolizing the modern commercialization of the film industry. Their strained relationship reflects a larger cultural shift, where traditional cinema struggles to survive in the digital age.

The film beautifully captures the loss of artistic heritage and the generational gap in values. Through heartfelt performances, particularly by Paran Bandopadhyay as the father, Cinemawala delivers a poignant narrative on change, resistance, and acceptance. With its rich storytelling and emotional depth, the film pays tribute to classic cinema while mourning its fading presence in a rapidly evolving world.
